Many parents find success with giving their child a warm bath or using a soothing voice while reading a story. Bed time should not include any food. You also want to eliminate any caffeine for your child less than six hours prior to bed time. Designating the time between dinner and bed time as a relaxation time can also help your children sleep. This prevents them from becoming overstimulated prior to bed.

You can also help improve your child’s sleep by controlling the environment. The temperature in the bedroom should be comfortable for the child. It’s also important that the bedroom is dark. If your child goes to bed before nightfall then you will want to invest in some thick curtains or shades. Keep the noise level in the rest of the house low to avoid waking your child. All television and video games should be off at least 90 minutes prior to bedtime. It’s also important to make sure there is no television or other screens in your child’s room that may keep them awake. This also applies to radio and cellular phones.
